LEKKI WIVES
Directed By: BLESSING EGBE
MOVIE SYNOPSIS
Lekki Wives tells a compelling story of 5 women friends who by one way or the other, find themselves at the top of the societal food chain. On the outside, each one of them lavishly, and with very little care, shows off material possession, that could make anyone go green with envy. Their deep seated need for attention, and affection, makes each woman in her own peculiar way, do all she can to stay on top of the food chain.
Each character is troubled with issues that cannot be blown away by their insane wealth. They put up fronts of a perfect paradisiac life, while right beneath that surface, is a rotting hell hole of despicable and sadistic living and when all hell breaks loose on each one of them... ALL HELL DID BREAK LOOSE.
REVIEW:
This is by far, one of the best series I have seen in Nigeria yet. The movie case says over 8 hours of prime content... And that doesn't even begin to tell it all. Every scene kept me on the edge, and kept my heart beating.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing, in terms of lines. The script was so tightly woven, there were no loopholes to be plugged.
Also, the great selection on a well rounded cast, that was led by Adaora Ukoh, Katherine Obiang, Chinonso Young, Kiki Omeili, and Keira Hewatch was no child's play. I don't know how the audition went, but the way these women interpreted their roles proves that they weren't just telephoned to come and take up. They really wanted to be these people on screen, and you can feel that. Their words hit you in serious places, and send messages you will not forget quickly.
In terms of comedic relief, Katherine Obiang gave her all. I honestly don't know why she has kept that talent hidden for so long. She nailed the part.
Seeing that this movie was written, produced and directed by Blessing Egbe (Two brides and a Baby's writer and producer) makes me wonder the kind of complex wiring she has hidden in her head. She looks so simple, yet so amazingly gifted. You could feel the dedication she put towards bringing this brain child of her's to life, and honestly, no one else could have done it better.
There is no perfect movie, but this one is almost perfect.
The only thing I disliked was the ghost at the end. This has been overplayed in Nollywood, and quite frankly, it was a scary shocker. I didn't expect it and it had a lasting effect on me by further cementing all the lessons I had learnt for 8 hours. If that was the purpose, mission accomplished but honestly, we got the idea, with or without a ghost.
Now that a movie is set to be released, I do have mixed feelings. On one hand, I'm holding my expectations in the hands of craft master Blessing Egbe, knowing fully well, that she delivers anything but ordinary. On the other hand, I wonder how such complexity, as Lekki Wives is going to be compressed into a 2-3 hour movie. She is pulling a Tyler Perry on us here ( as he makes stage plays into movies) and my fingers are crossed!
